May 1-31, Fiestas de Mayo. Chetumal, Quintana Roo. This cultural event takes place at the fort of San Felipe. The Fiestas de Mayo is a month-long festivity celebrated at the famous Mayan Kohunlich ruins. During the first week, visitors can appreciate the ritual of the sacred copal of Kohunlich, the pyramid of masks. The festivities include fire works, dances and theatrical war fights as they happened centuries ago.

May 12-29, Feria de Tabasco (Tabasco Fair), Villahermosa Parque, Tabasco. Taking place at the famous Villahermosa Park, famous for its Olmec artifacts, the Tabasco State Fair features a colorful boat parade over the Grijalva river. Seventeen counties share their best in gastronomy, art, crafts and cultural spectacles. In the evenings, visitors join the outdoor theatre where plays are presented by each county.

May 18, Festejos del Dia Internacional de los Museos (International Museum Day) Mexico City. This popular themed event is held each year in on May 18th and more than 100 museums across the city take part, offering guided tours, workshops and more. This year the theme is “Museums and Memory”. There will be exhibitions, conferences, workshops, guided tours, and seminars in the INAH museum network. Organized by ICOM (International Council of Museums) in 1977, the celebration aims to bring the public to these cultural and educational spaces through various activities that highlight the role of these compounds as guardians of historical memory. While the commemorative date is May18th, some celebrations begin on May 16th and will run until May 22, according to the activities scheduled for each of the museums of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH Conaculta).

May 21-31, Acafest, Acapulco, Gro. One of the most popular musical events in Mexico. For one week, this festival brings together the best examples of national and international rock and pop music. It is held every year at the beach and at the Cultural and Convention Center of Acapulco.

May 24-29, 8th Annual Festival Francés, Acapulco, Gro. A popular cultural event in Acapulco, celebrating everything French. A number of films are screened, fashion shows held and plenty of French haute cuisine is available to be sampled. For more info: http://www.festivalfrances.com

May 27 – June 5, Feria Internacional del Queso y el Vino (International Cheese and Wine Fair), Tequisquiapan, Queretaro. Tequisquiapan celebrates each year its National Cheese and Wine Fair hosting a week of festivities including cheese and wine tasting, expositions, lectures, conferences and workshops with national and international experts.
