“For other tasty daiquiris replace the strawberries with any other tropical fruit: bananas, mangos, kiwis, papaya…”

As the weather gets steamier there’s nothing better than a tasty frozen tropical drink. Old standards such as the “rita” and the “piña” are always great but why not branch out and try something more exotic. Guaranteed to bring the temperature down at least a few degrees and well, they’re just great fun (to drink and to ask bartenders for!)

Margarita

2 teaspoons coarse salt
1 lime wedge
3 oz. white tequila
1 oz. triple sec
2 oz. Lime juice
1 cup ice

Place the salt in a saucer, rub the rim of a collins glass with the lime wedge and dip the glass into the salt to coat the rim of the glass. Pour the tequilla, triple sec, lime juice and ice into the blender. Blend well at high speed, pour into a collins glass and garnish with a lime wedge.

Piña Colada

2 oz. Light rum
5 oz. pineapple juice
1 1/2 oz. coconut cream
1 cup ice
(1 maraschino cherry
1 pineapple slice)

Pour rum, pineapple juice and coconut cream in blender with ice, blend well at high speed. Pour into a collins glass and garnish with cherry and pineapple slice and of course a brightly colored plastic straw.
**throw in a sliced ripe banana and it’s a banana colada.

Strawberry Daiquiri

2 oz. light rum
1/2 oz. triple sec
6 overripe strawberries
1 oz. lime juice
1/2 teaspoon superfine sugar
1 cup ice

Combine all ingredients in blender, blend well, pour into a collins glass. Add paper umbrellas and a colorful plastic straw.
**for other tasty daiquiris replace the strawberries with any other tropical fruit: bananas, mangos, kiwis, papaya…

Pour all ingredients in a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, shake well, strain into an old fashioned glass half filled with crushed ice. Float the orchid or parasol on top, serve with 4 short straws.

1 oz. orange juice
1 teaspoon grenadine
1 cup ice

Tropical Rainstorm

1 1/2 oz. dark rum
1/2 oz. cherry brandy
1/2 oz. lemon juice
1 teaspoon triple sec

In a shaker half filled with ice cubes, combine all ingredients, shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass.

Zombie

1 oz. light rum
1 oz. añejo rum
1 oz. dark rum
2 teaspoons 151 rum
1 oz. apricot brandy
2 oz. orange juice
1 oz. pineapple juice
1 oz. lime juice
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
1 cup ice
(1 orange slice
1 maraschino cherry
1 mint sprig)

In blender combine all but the 151, blend well at high speed. Pour into a collins glass. Float 151 on top and garnish with orange slice, cherry and mint spring.
